Customer Reviews

Great picture 4
I purchased the LT47P789 a couple days ago. I upgraded from the VP322- 32" plasma.
I thought the plasma had a good HD picture until I put them side by side. There really is a big difference in richness and quality between the 2 pictures. The plasma seems to have a dull film over the picture with colors not as true or vivid including blacks. There is also a difference in detail such as face imperfections that are clearly picked up on the 1080 versus the 720 plasma.
For comparison I used a Gefen tv splitter 1:4 that takes the HDMI cable from my Dish Network receiver and splits it to 4-HDMI displays. The Gefen splitters are a little pricey but they also split the audio correctly including lip sync pass through.
2 x 10 watt Speakers provide decent sound and are not tinny like on the plasma. A would recommend a surround sound system for true theater feel however.
I see little to no motion blur while watching sports in HD. Its comparable with the plasma. The tv also has the ipod docking station that I have yet to try.

The cons I see with the LT47P789 is it does a poor job with SD 480i signals. The plasma also did a poor job. The 480p progressive scan dvd player looks very good however.
Hopefully we will have all HD channels in the near future.

Just a note the factory settings were actually not that good for my taste when I got the tv.
After doing some adjusting I ended up with: video status-dynamic, tint-45, color-68, picture-54, bright- 52, detail-25, back light-100, color temp-cool.

So far, very good.4
I got this TV primarily because of the built in iPod dock and the good price. So far, I'm very impressed.

Picture - After hooking it up to my cable box with an HDMI cable and adjusting some of the settings, the picture is even better than I expected, even on non HD broadcasts. Blacks are black, and no blur from fast motion. The screen does a great job of reducing glare and reflections.

Sound - The sound is adequate. Has 2 speakers with an option for simulated surround sound. The sound is weak compared to a home entertainment system, but about average for a TV. There are several sound settings and can be customized.

Remote - The remote works good and is laid out pretty well. I mostly only use it to to play the ipod, since normally use the remote from the cable company.

iPod Dock - JVC is currently the only TV manufacturer that offers a built in iPod dock. The dock flips down from the front of the TV just below the screen, and gives you the ability to play music or videos from most iPod's through the TV. There is a very limited menu on the TV screen for control of the iPod. For most iPod models the TV screen menu only allows you to: Play music (alphabetically); Shuffle play music; or Play videos. You can also skip forward or back to the next song or video using the remote. More control of the iPod can be done using the TV remote to operate the menus on the iPod itself, or you can manually manipulate the menu on the ipod unit. It would be nice if the full ipod screen appeared on the TV, but it doesn't. Videos from the iPod are not very high quality, so are best viewed in a small screen mode.

Overall - Seems to be a well made TV with a lot of features. I'm very pleased.

Excellent Value4
I agree with the other reviews posted here. The picture quality is excellent. I have mine wall mounted fairly close to a large window that receives late afternoon sun, yet glare is not a problem.

I like the USB camera dock for my Kodak digital camera and love the iPod dock on the front. It is easy to watch MP4 video or listen to my MP3 songs. One more neat thing is the blue light that is part of the iPod dock. It's a great night light and you can actually control how bright it is or shut it off. Nice touch JVC!

I do have three minor complaints however. There is no way to even out the sound when those annoyingly loud commercials come on and there is no way to bring up a picture in picture if you would like to watch something but say keep your eye on some type of sports. Also all of the main component plug-ins are located high up on the rear of the set so you can't plug anything in once the set is hung on a wall. My advice is to stick a few wires on the back just in case you need them later.

Other than that this is a beautiful set for the money.
